Safe Haven Respite Program at NOMC

With the support of Lifespan’s Finger Lakes Caregiver Institute and training offered by them and the Alzheimer’s Association, the Safe Haven Respite Program opened its doors at NOMC in October 2019. This program gives caregivers an opportunity to take a break and/or take care of business while their loved ones in the earlier stages of memory loss are provided with caring companionship and supervised activities provided by our trained volunteers – many from our congregation but also people from the community. We gather every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in VandeVate Hall here at NOMC. We chat over coffee and snacks, do crafts, cook, do some chair exercises, sing, eat lunch, and play games. The social program is free and open to all in Wayne and eastern Monroe and northern Ontario counties. Our volunteers and Lifespan are excited about the response to the program. If you have questions or would like to volunteer or seek care for a loved one so you can get some needed respite time, contact Wanda Klem (585)330-7907, or another of our volunteers.
