Each month of the year, I find myself pondering what I could possibly write about in a newsletter article. This month is no different. So, here I am pondering why some of these articles are easier to write than others. My conclusion is that the articles that are easiest to write are those articles when I have spent the most time with God the previous month.
As most of you know, the month of May for me was filled with my grandchildren. I still spent time reading scripture and in prayer, but I was unashamedly distracted by my grandchildren. My communication with God or the finishing of a chapter in scripture was often broken with the pitter-patter of running feet and the heartfelt giggles of little voices. I found myself an observer of the beautiful life my son and daughter-in-law have built and God spoke even in the distractions of life. Therefore, you are going to have to forgive me as I fill this article with my experiences in May.
While with my family, I witnessed moments in life that both made me smile and made my eyes tear with joy. Here are some of those moments: seeing my grandson in his first musical at school, seeing my eldest granddaughter in her chorus/band concert. Being there when my daughter-in-law went into labor and being able to snuggle my youngest granddaughter during her nap as mommy and daddy took off to the hospital. I had a front row seat to one of the most precious Father’s Day moments, where my son, after working all day, both at his job and at home, left the house just before 10pm to run to the store to buy something that was needed for the house without complaint or question. I watched this family work together as a unit to navigate the lives of three busy children and add a fourth life into the mix. All this being done, while entertaining both sides of the family as guests in their home. I know these parents did not learn all this from their original families, after all I raised half of this team.
I was privileged to watch all this transpire, and God nudged me to share these moments with you and share my insight. God loves unity, God loves love, and God loves for us all to have a common goal in life. May our goals in life, no matter how old we get, be to raise ourselves and those around us to fall more in love with God to work together for the common goal of discipleship without complaint. Life is precious, in all stages, cherish all moments and love more deeply while we work together to be all that God calls us to be.
