The word I\u2019m ruminating with, at the moment, is \u201cANTICIPATION.\u201d Right now, I am anticipating Holy Week and Easter. I am anticipating Spring. I am anticipating another grandbaby being born in May. All good things. I also anticipate my birthday and Mother\u2019s Day and wonder if my kids will remember. My elder son thinks Mother\u2019s Day is about the mother of his children (all well and good) and my younger son sometimes forgets what day anything falls on. (Some iffy things.) I am also anticipating paying my taxes. (Not such a good thing.)
Each year as we approach Holy Week, we should be anticipating the events of this week and the teachings of Jesus during this time. During our Lenten journey we studied some of Jesus\u2019 parables which he taught during Holy Week. These lessons were taught through Bible Study and through preaching on Sunday mornings.
Jesus intensified his efforts to make the disciples and those listening to his teachings, ready to not only receive the Good News but to act upon it accordingly. Some of these teachings were hard to digest for the first century Jews, just as they are for us today. I wonder how many stopped listening before the end of the week was upon them. I wonder how many stopped listening when Jesus took the traditions enacted upon since the days of Moses during the Passover meal and twisted them into something new. I wonder how many stopped listening when Jesus hung on a cross or how many knew the end had come when the stone was rolled in front of the tomb. Who could have even anticipated a resurrection on Easter Sunday, even though Christ had told them this would happen?
So, when Easter Sunday rolls around what will you be anticipating? An Easter egg hunt? A basket full of candy and toys? Easter Sunday Dinner? All good things. But, if you are looking for the great things, I pray you are anticipating an encounter with the risen Savior.
Hallelujah! Our Savior lives! Hallelujah!
Come Lord Jesus, Risen Savior, meet us in your glorified risen state that we may see and believe. Amen
